May I sound off a bit?
I had three children who went through 'the system' schools, extremely
intelligent children, bored with the curricullum... the usual.  I supported
them and was very interactive with the teachers.
The youngest, once in high school, developed serious migraines and missed
numerous days.  Doctors perscribed strong medications, not without side
effects, that would 'eventually' level the headaches out.
Meanwhile she continued to miss school.  We tried to collect homework from
the teachers and so on.  I was unfamiliar with some of the texts and asked
for teachers/tutors.  We were denied tutors without a doctor's note!  The
doctor wouldn't presume that she would be missing any length of school due
to unperdictable headaches etc., although the medications made her just as
ill if not worse.
Therefore; No school support.  The options seemed obvious to me, so I
pulled her from the system, and began homeschooling.
Wow!  Did that Vice Principal feel threatened or what?!  I haven't looked
back.  Except to think that I wasted time and potential for my children.
Resources available privately are extensive, and never underestimate the
library!
Social Interaction ??? She had 3 times the time to be socially
interactive!
What do they 'teach' if the child comes home with 3 hours of homework,
during the 6 - 7 hours a day they have that child?

A teaching parent... is there any other kind?
