OFTP Not-Going-Back-To-School
homeschoolers' celebrations

In September when the Back-To-School message becomes a reality for schoolchildren, many homeschoolers also return to a different routine than that of summer, while others continue the same learning-through-living that they enjoy all year round. Either way, homeschoolers are not going back to school in the conventional sense.

Many homeschooling families kick off the season with a big gathering to celebrate their educational choice and connect with fellow homeschoolers. These are the Not-Going-Back-To-School gatherings that we are aware of (there may be others of which we have not been informed):

In the past there have been events of this type in Brighton, Hamilton, Honeywood, Kitchener, London, Markham, Toronto and Tottenham.

If you are aware of a Not-Back-To-School event that is not listed, please let us know so we can help spread the word! Thanks!

A great way to connect with other homeschoolers in your area!

Not Going Back to School Beach Party - Toronto

organized by Jacqui Burke
Tuesday, September 6, 2011
noon - 5pm
Ashbridges Bay Play Park, Toronto

Hey folks:

I usually try to do something edifying for the Not Going Back to School Event, but this year, I would just like to celebrate freedom. With that in mind, I would like to propose the Not Going Back to School Beach Party on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Ashbridges Bay Play Park. (I would normally propose Cherry Beach but the special buses stop on Labour Day, boos).

Ashbridges Bay Play Park is on the beach at the foot of Coxwell at Lakeshore, just minutes east from the end of the Gardiner Expressway. There are bathroom facilities, a lovely playpark with shaded areas, a little restaurant (that I am pretty sure will be open), BBQ facilities, the beach volleyball nets will likely still be up, and (of course) the lake. The lake is not right beside the playpark, so the facility is safe. There is plenty of parking or take 92 Woodbine South bus from Woodbine Station and get off at the Ashbridges Bay loop.

Bring your own everything. In case of rain, I will cancel by 10:00 am with a rain date.

I will be there from noon to five, with my requisite purple balloon on my backpack. Feel free to come over and say hello. Many folks find that this picnic is a great way to meet new folks and reconnect with old friends. All are welcome.

Hope to see you there.
