OFTP Not-Going-Back-To-School
homeschoolers' celebrations

In September when the Back-To-School message becomes a reality for schoolchildren, many homeschoolers also return to a different routine than that of summer, while others continue the same learning-through-living that they enjoy all year round. Either way, homeschoolers are not going back to school in the conventional sense.

Many homeschooling families kick off the season with a big gathering to celebrate their educational choice and connect with fellow homeschoolers. These are the Not-Going-Back-To-School gatherings that we are aware of (there may be others of which we have not been informed):

In the past there have been events of this type in Brighton, Hamilton, Honeywood, Kitchener, London, Toronto and Tottenham.

If you are aware of a Not-Back-To-School event that is not listed, please let us know so we can help spread the word! Thanks!

A great way to connect with other homeschoolers in your area!

HBLN Annual Not Back To School Picnic - Blanchet Beach

Tuesday September 8th (rain date is Wednesday September 9th) around 12pm

Bring picnic lunches, beach toys, swimsuits, towels, and meet up with homeschooling friends old and new! We meet around noon at Blanchet Beach (the *second* beach along the Lake Meech shore) for an afternoon of fun in the sun --- in past years we've occasionally had an afternoon of fun in the light drizzle, but it was fun all the same. We also have a tradition of celebrating dessert at the NBTS Picnic by setting up a table full of shared desserts, so we will all welcome any snacks and goodies you'd like to share with the group (please remember to indicate allergy-related info regarding peanuts, nuts, eggs, dairy, wheat, etc.).

NGBTS gathering at the ROM - Toronto

A group of families will be meeting September 8 at the ROM at 11:00 am on the stairs outside the OLD entrance (on Avenue Road) with the plan of taking a look at the Dead Sea Scrolls (amongst other things). We'd like to invite interested family to join us. By the way, there will be children of all ages, from teenagers to babies. Those of you new to homeschooling or who don't know anyone: look for a purple balloon tied to a backpack and feel free to come over and say hello to Jacqui. She'd be happy to introduce you around.
