Math and logic
CLSO-math offers a free sample of its lesson on Fractions. Unlike some conventional approaches to math instruction, which start with abstract concepts and end with application in the real world, the CLSO (Concepts-Language-Symbols-Operations) approach is to follow the learner's path of least resistance by starting with direct perceptual understanding through the visual (and/or kinesthetic, if using manipulatives rather than the images of the workbooks), and building the math procedures step by step through "scaffolding" that eventually leads to the underlying abstract concepts. The demo on the web site's home page shows a very easy, step-by-step process for learning how to solve algebra problems. The free sample to download, is on fractions.
ThatQuiz.com is a free online resource for math practice and testing. The money section includes Canadian coins. Students can access all of the tests without registration. Immediate feedback is in terms of right or wrong only (the correct answer is not given after a mistake is made). Free registration for teachers allows customization of quizzes and record-keeping of students' scores.
